Maybe I'll reach you...

"Maybe I reach you, some of you, in a position to save a soul and find a forever friend?

Maybe you''ll make some child happy and/or yourself?

Adopt a dog. Fall in puppy love again. It doesn't hurt. It's never too late -- for you."

by: Helga Ross.

...Then I first saw “Candi”, she stole my heart. My love for this petite Poodle sparked a life-long passion and occupation to reproduce her intelligence, loyalty and beauty.

You cant buy loyalty, they say. I bought it though the other day. You cant buy friendship tried and true. Well just the same I bought that to—along with love and faith and a whole lot of happiness; so all in all the total price was pretty small. I bought a simple, trusting heart that gave devotion from the start, if
you think these things are not for sale—buy a black-eyed Poodle pup with a wagging tail.

Poetry for Dogs
Doin' the Biscuit Dance

Clever as the arctic fox,
I slide up to the biscuit box.
I bob and weave, I tap, I prance,
Doin' the biscuit dance.

In this world you can never tell
If you'll get a biscuit or a yell
But as for me, I'll take that chance,
Doin' the biscuit dance.

Biscuits are my passion,
Morning noon and night
Kibbles fill my tummy,
But biscuits make me feel just right

I love coffee, I love tea,
I love somebody scratching me
But biscuits are my great romance
Doin' the biscuit dance

Biscuits are my passion,
Morning noon and night
Kibbles fill my tummy,
But biscuits make me feel just right

I need my collar, need my tags
Walkin' gives my tail the wags
But the tune that fills my pants with ants
Is "Doin' the Biscuit Dance."

Breeder's Heaven

So, you want to be a breeder
seems like lots of fun
today I'll buy a puppy
tomorrow I'll be #1
seems like easy money
a quick claim to fame
I'll lead my dogs around the ring
everyone will know my name.

I bet I beat them all
I'll produce champions by the score
my dogs will never be small
people will gladly pay more.

Yes, I think I'll be a breeder
so now what I must do
is buy a pair, breed um quick
yes, I'll be rich lickity-split.

Wow, this kennel is impressive
the dogs all look so good
but, they will be no match for me
they only wish they could
HOW MUCH? are you for real?
I'll just look around
they think they're smart,
I'll buy a pet and puppies
will abound. how much?
that's better $500 will be fine
I'll buy the pet, save a grand
the future is all mine!

OCD? HIP DYSPLACIA? CONGENITAL HEART
DISEASE? ENTROPRIAN? CHERRY EYE? the
possibilities!

I don't understand
it's a litter of just two?
$1500 vet bills, feeding costs to boot
I'll just mark um up
that's just what I'll do.

Yes my puppies are the greatest
they're the best in the land
What bloodlines? I don't know
I guess the blood is grand.
I'm gonna show them ya know
they'll be champions one day
better buy one while ya can
before they get away.
The bite? oh he don't bite too hard
except when the meter reader
came into the yard
The topline? I don't know,
there's champs in the line
Do I guarantee them?
Nope! no reason to with mine.

The puppies aren't selling
the breeding bubble bursts
lets go for a ride boys
this feed bill really hurts.

The road to breeder's heaven
is never short nor cheap
years of work and effort
earn reputations worthy to keep
lesson #1 is cheap don't earn it's keep.

Let's hope you're not so foolish
as the dreamer talked of here
the road is long and uphill,
most turn back in fear
no one pats you on the back
and says you're doin great
yet we go on breeding,
breeding for the breed's sake .

May God bless the breeder.

When I am Old...

I shall wear Turquoise and soft gray sweatshirts...
and a bandana over my silver hair...
and I shall spend my Social Security Checks
on Sweet Wine and My Dogs...
and sit in my house on my well-worn chair,
and listen to my dog's breathing.

I will sneak out in the middle of a warm Summer night
and take my dogs for a run, if my old bones will allow...
and when people come to call,
I will smile and nod as I show them my dogs...
and talk of them and about them...
The Ones so Beloved of the Past
and the Ones so Beloved of Today....

I still will work hard cleaning after them
and mopping and feeding them
and whispering their names in a soft, loving way.
I will wear their gleaming drool on my throat like a jewel,
and I will be an embarrassment to all, and my family...
who have not yet found the peace in being free
to have dogs as your Best Friends....

These friends who always wait,
at any hour, for your footfall...
and eagerly jump to their feet out of a sound sleep,
to greet you as if you are a God.
With warm eyes full of adoring love
and hope that you will stay and hug their big, strong necks...
and kiss their dear sweet heads...
and whisper to them of your love and the
beautiful pleasure of their very special company....

I look in the Mirror...
and see I am getting old....
this is the kind of woman I am...
and have always been.
Loving dogs is easy, they are part of me,
accept me for who I am,
My dogs appreciate my presence in their lives...
When I am old this will be important to me...
you will understand when you are old....
and if you have dogs to love too.
